Key Responsibilities Include:
Instructs and lifeguards aquatic programs in a professional manner
Competent and skilled in emergency response procedures and providing first aid.
Completes daily pool operations, maintenance and chemical checks
Reports any deficiencies or safety concerns to Aquatics Supervisor
Assists with routine maintenance and daily cleanliness providing a clean and safe environment for all patrons
Enforces pool rules and Alberta health regulations with patrons using the pool
Provides leadership to other staff and mentors junior lifeguards
Make sound decisions regarding patron usage with safety as the main concern when issues arise
Assists with public education, outreach strategies and promotion of aquatic programs and services as required.
Must actively participate in all “in-service” training.
Act as a shift leader when assigned by Aquatics Supervisor.
Actively participate in Formal Workplace Inspections in area of responsibility
Review pertinent Hazard Identification, Assessment and Control worksheets on an annual basis as required by the Municipal Health and Safety Program
Follow all Safe Work Practices and Procedures
Immediately report any unsafe conditions, potential work hazards or incidents to Supervisor
Perform other related duties as directed by supervisor.
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Grade 12 or GED equivalent
One year pool related experience
National Lifeguard Award (NL)
Lifesaving Society Instructor (LSI)
Standard First Aid or Aquatic Emergency Care
Aquarobics training and/or teaching experience.
WHMIS, is preferable
Clear Criminal and Vulnerable Sector Check
Ability to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends and holidays) and shift work as required
Meet the physical fitness standards of the National Lifeguard Service Award at all times.
