Key Responsibilities

In accordance with this policy, Pre-Employment drug and alcohol testing is required prior to commencing employment.

Duties for the 4 Month position will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Tree planting
  • Grass seeding
  • Shelterbelt pest control
  • Weed and brush inspection and herbicide application
  • Invasive species management
  • Conducting pest survey’s
  • Rental equipment transportation and set up within Starland County.

Duties for the 6 Month position will include but are not limited to the following:

  • ASB equipment operation and equipment maintenance
  • Delivery and set up of rental equipment
  • Roadside vegetation management, and roadside spraying and herbicide application
  • Shelterbelt tree planting
  • Weed and pest control operation on public and private land
  • Conducting pest surveys
  • Roadside grass seeding operations in the county.

Requirements

4 Month Position

The successful candidates will possess a valid class 5 licence and have experience operating a 1 ton truck &utility/flat bed trailer, be able or willing to learn to operate equipment such as a 60hp tractor, ATV’s & UTVs, and have a working knowledge of weeds and responsible herbicide and pesticide use. Must be able to lift 23 kg. Consideration will be given to candidates who are currently enrolled in agricultural related training and to those with a valid pesticide applicator licence or willing to obtain required certifications/licences. Employment will commence on or near May 1st and end approximately August 31st, 2025.

6 Month Position

Employment will commence on or near May 1st and end on or near October 27 2025.

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Drivers License and Boat License
  • Pesticide Applicator Licence or Equivalent

  • Weed and Insect Identification
  • Mechanically Inclined
  • Agricultural Background
  • Physically Fit
  • Comfortable with Technology
