The Recreation Business Services Supervisor leads department staff in making strategic business decisions to support the planning, development and implementation of centralized services, including registrations, facility bookings and memberships while keeping particular attention to regional activities and changing community needs. This role partners with senior leaders, stakeholders and department supervisors and managers to provide service analysis and recommendations that drive corporate and department strategies.

The Recreation Business Services Supervisor position manages fee development/implementation and utilization strategies to meet community needs and optimize department revenue. The position is also responsible for leading various department projects for a strategic, and where appropriate, centralized approach.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategize current practices, systems and processes related to program registration, memberships and facility booking; and identify and implement opportunities to capitalize on the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery systems across the department. Includes program registration, membership sales and maintenance, facility bookings, accounts receivable, cash handling processes and customer service procedures.
  • Manage the central services registration and facility booking processes. Set the department standards and business processes across the department while ensuring minor sport allocations are followed, implemented and evaluated.
  • Collaborate with Facility Supervisors, events and bookings staff, CSR Supervisors, Programmers and RPC Finance and Business Operations to improve processes and enhance organizational performances.
  • Supervise, direct and/or lead the department customer assistants and facility booking staff in centralized process implementation, enhancements and sustainment.
  • Responsible for the Recreation Access Program, as part of the Everybody Gets to Play program, for coordination, enhancement recommendations and improved service delivery with liaising with Family and Community Services and Transit. This position currently is the RPC lead on a 2025/2026 program review.
  • Collaborate with Community Liaison and Facility Supervisors to maximize facility utilization through an efficient and effective allocation booking process. Provide oversight and coordination on all booking agreements and provide advisory services as a leader of the Facility Utilization Committee.
  • Lead & support development for existing and future RPC facilities and services; new facility opening requirements (The Pointe), facility enhancements, additional services.
  • Provide leadership and cross department coordination of system enhancements and changes as a functional lead on the Recreation Management Software (RMS) Working Committee.
  • Administrative Services Coordinator for the RPC Administration Building.
  • Fees & Charges Department Lead responsible for recommendation and implementation of fees and charges based on the Recreation, Parks & Culture Fees and Charges Framework.
  • County Connect System Department Lead responsible as the department representative for the system. This position is integral to the upcoming system replacement to coordinate and oversee strategic department input to the corporate project.
  • Develop and supervise the branch business services team at the Recreation Administration Office through recruitment, training, leading and coaching.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills: 

  • Post Secondary Diploma in Recreation Administration, Recreation Sport and Tourism, Business or related discipline and 5 years related experience in a supervisory capacity for progressively responsible roles, preferably in a large multi-functional recreation facility setting or a Post Secondary Degree and 3 years related experience in a supervisory capacity for progressively responsible roles, preferably in a large multi-functional recreation facility setting
  • Knowledge of municipal protocol and a strong understanding of corporate and division policies, procedures and organizational structure
  • Strong supervisory abilities including sound leadership skills to influence, motivate and direct staff while maintaining a professional, positive image
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team qualities. Ability to work with confidence with other municipal service departments. Demonstrate analytical and problem-solving skills; decision making skills; negotiations skills; stress and time management skills
  • Recreation management system software (Intelligenz), Adobe CS, SharePoint, word processing, advanced spreadsheet and database software, financial management skills
  • Strong knowledge of Strathcona County and Recreation, Parks and Culture core services/programs

 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
