Summary

The Project Engineer provides engineering services and technical support to ensure the effective planning, design, and delivery of infrastructure and development projects within the Town. This position plays a key role in supporting land development, capital projects, and environmental initiatives, while collaborating with internal teams and external partners to uphold municipal engineering standards and deliver public service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Engineering Services & Technical Support
    • Assist in the administration and delivery of Town infrastructure maintenance and construction projects.
    • Review and provide technical input on infrastructure and environmental reports, studies, and related documentation.
    • Assess engineering documents related to area structure plans and subdivision development for compliance with municipal engineering and development standards.
  2. Project Inspection & Monitoring
    • Conduct inspections of land development projects.
    • Complete Construction Completion Certificate (CCC) and Final Acceptance Certificate (FAC) inspections to ensure municipal standards are met.
  3. Project Management & Research
    • Research and conduct special projects, technical studies, and prepare related reports.
    • Assist in the creation and compilation of contract documents for consulting and construction services procurement.
    • Support contract administration and manage technical consultants for planning, design, and implementation of projects.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support project delivery.
    • Assist senior management with presentations, public engagement activities, and meetings with Council, community groups, and partners.
  5. Technical Advice & Collaboration
    • Provide technical advice and assist in resolving engineering-related issues across departments and with external professionals.
    • Organize and participate in technical meetings with developers, contractors, engineers, and architects.
    • Implement and provide input on development conditions related to rezoning and development permit applications.
  6. Participation with Pincher Creek Regional Emergency Management Organization as required including training and emergency event support.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Two (2) to four (4) years of related experience.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA.
  • Strong ability to interpret and communicate complex technical information effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a focus on professional, customer-oriented service.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and report-writing skills.
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.

ASSETS

  • Experience with AutoCAD and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
  • Knowledge of project management standards in the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with municipal government operations and public sector processes.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a combination of office and field environments.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for public engagement or Council meetings.
  • Must be able to travel within the municipality and to external sites as required.
