Key Responsibilities Include:
Working Conditions
• Extensive contact working with children ages 3-17 years old
• Daily program delivery (Monday - Thursday between 8:30 am - 4:30pm)
• Required to swim, leading activities (including games, songs, crafts, cooking and outdoor adventures), working indoor and outdoor environments, setting up & dismantling of program equipment and materials
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Implement daily programming, enforce camp rules, policies and guidelines
• Supervise groups various sizes and ages of children in a variety of settings
• Organize, lead and assist in a variety of small and large group activities
• Know and understand how to execute all emergency procedures, guidelines and information following training
• Assist in maintaining program records including incident reports, first aid reports, behavioural documentation, program feedback and daily attendance
• Offering superb leadership, instruction and assistance to staff, participants and volunteers
• Assist in training, development and feedback to the Counsellors in Training (CITs)
• Offer superior customer service to internal and external patrons
• Attend and contribute in all scheduled meetings, training sessions and special staff events (including Black Gold Parade)
• Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
• Minimum 18 years of age and in high school or completed high school
• Red Cross Standard First Aid or equivalent; willing to attain training
• Minimum of 6 months of direct experience with children aged 3 – 17 years old
• Minimum 6 months direct leadership, programming and implementation of camps
Knowledge:
• Knowledge of common games, activities and songs appropriate for children aged 3 - 12
• Awareness and a solid understanding of age appropriate dialogue
• Techniques for interactions with upset children
• Strategies for inclusion and inclusiveness
Skills:
• Possess exceptional organization and time management skills
• Implement and organize program elements
• Effective skills in communicating with co-workers, supervisors, participants and patrons
• Self-motivated and takes initiative without prompting
• Must have daily reliable transportation
• Be punctual, enthusiastic and committed
• Proficient in managing stress, noise and control in high traffic and busy environments
Abilities
• Ability to walk, stand and sit on the floor. Must be able to talk and hear well. Good vision is imperative. Kneeling, crouching or crawling is required occasionally.
• Able to confidently make decisions and changes in times of need and communicate accordingly
• Ability to work independently and as a team member
• Exceptional ability in written and verbal communications
• Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize a workload effectively
• Ability to lift 50lbs from floor to waist and up stairs
• Able to pass a Child Intervention Check and Vulnerable Sector check.
