Summary

An opportunity exists to join the Town of Slave in a full-time permanent position. Reporting to the Community Relations Manager, the Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning and coordination of programs, special events and marketing initiatives for the community of Slave Lake.

SALARY:

$31.41 – $39.58 per hour or $61,249.50 – $77,181.00 per annum

Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, coordinates, and implements a variety of registered and drop-in programs, and community events through recruiting instructors and administering contracts, advertising and marketing programs, maintaining budgets, recruiting, hiring and training summer employees, supervising day to day camp operations, and scheduling and providing general supervision of drop-in programs.
  • Participates in assessing community needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist with consultations, coordination, and identification with community organizations, agencies and Town departments opportunities that strengthen the community.
  • Using a variety of methods, collects, compiles, and disseminates information on the community that may prove useful when planning special events.
  • Work independently or with a committee to plan community events through booking facilities, securing vendors, coordinating with other departments and maintaining budgets, advertising.
  • Provides assistance to community organizations through the provision of resources materials, consultation services and relevant training opportunities.
  • Provides on-site coordination, which includes problem solving, decision-making.
  • Encourages the coordination of services among various groups with the objective of minimizing overlap, inefficiencies and jurisdictional confusion.
  • Prepares promotional materials and correspondence to participants; may hire and train support staff, volunteers and/or student employees.
  • Prepares and provides post-activity evaluation, prepares scheduled and special reports for the Director of Community Services, Town Council, and other levels of government as required.
  • Assist with the completion of all grant proposals and ensures that all accountability requirements are met.
  • Create, implement and promote seasonal program guides.
  • Seeks to inform and motivate the community to participate in Community events and programs through the planning and implementation of marketing strategies.
  • Maintains ongoing contact with relevant provincial networks i.e., regional meetings, conferences, workshops, etc.
  • Attends conferences or training opportunities that are relevant to the position within approved budgetary guidelines.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Business, Recreation Administration, Sports Management or Physical Education diploma or an equivalent combination of educations and /or experience.
  • 2 years’ experience in programming and event coordinating.
  • 2 years of supervisory experience.
  • Valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of preparing contracts, grants, funding proposals and reports
  • Computer programs including but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, MS Word, Excel, Publisher, Canva and other graphic programs.
  • Knowledge of recreation and community development principles
  • Superior Communication Skills both written and oral.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Experience working with not-for-profit organizations and boards.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

  • Occasional light lifting.
  • Long periods of sitting.
  • Extensive use of computer and telephone.
  • Good lighting, temperature, and noise control.
  • Potential to be working alone
  • Working outside for events throughout the year
  • Normal working day consists of a maximum of 7.5 hours; however, occasional extended hours may be required.
