Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative, technical and plumbing, gas and private sewage code compliance monitoring services for all types of buildings and systems,
- Provide consultation services and technical advice to architects, engineers, contractors, and permit applicants during the design stage to ensure the design complies with the applicable codes and standards,
- Provide relevant technical information and direction to assist applicants in determining acceptable solutions for design compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Review information submitted in support of plumbing, gas and private sewage permit applications for compliance with codes,
- Work with gas utility and Strathcona County utilities to ensure safe installation and connection of systems
- Evaluate alternate solution and variance request applications and assess whether the alternatives achieve the equivalent level of safety as intended by the prescriptive requirements of the plumbing/gas/private sewage codes, regulations or standards of practice
- Conduct site inspections of plumbing, gas and private sewage systems, which includes inspecting at appropriate construction stages to verify compliance or identify code deficiencies and/or unsafe conditions,
- Follow up identified deficiencies and unsafe conditions from site inspections by verification of compliance, re-inspection, or enforcement if necessary
- Investigate and identify unsafe conditions and/or un-permitted work including enforcing correction of unsafe conditions and permitting of un-permitted work including issuance of Orders as necessary
