The Town of Morinville is currently seeking a permanent full-time Parks Operator III to join the Public Works team. Reporting to the Team Lead, Parks, this role is responsible for operating light and heavy-duty municipal equipment and assisting with various park maintenance duties. Responsibilities include the maintenance and repair of sports surfaces, green spaces, public walkways, and parking lots to ensure they remain safe and well-maintained year-round. This position also plays a vital role in winter operations, including snow and ice control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate municipal equipment, including ride-on mowers, hand tools, and other equipment, while performing tasks safely and responsibly.
  • Collect and remove refuse from roadways, parks, walkways, and all Town-owned green spaces.
  • Assist in evaluating equipment and contribute to purchasing and replacement decisions.
  • Conduct daily maintenance inspections and perform weekly servicing on all operating equipment to ensure compliance with established work procedures.
  • Train new employees on the job while leading projects and overseeing contractors.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the Team Lead, Parks, in their absence.
  • Perform structural risk assessments and identify tree pests and diseases.
  • Utilize specialized skills, techniques, and procedures to perform year-round Parks maintenance, including tree services, turf management, landscaping, trail systems, refuse collection, sports field maintenance, and snow removal.
  • Conduct hazard assessments, worksite inspections, safety meetings, and incident investigations to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule and work various shifts, including weekends, as needed.
  • Assist in the annual assessment of the Town’s infrastructure and provide maintenance feedback to the Team Lead, Parks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience operating equipment in support of Parks operations.
  • Valid Class 3 Drivers License with Q Endorsement (Air Brakes).
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Certification is required.
  • Parks & Sports Fields Level II Certification is required.
  • Chainsaw Safety Certification is required.
  • Playground Inspector Certification is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of Parks maintenance operations within a municipal government setting.
  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to engage courteously and effectively with the public and both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Physical ability and dexterity to perform a variety of manual tasks (heavy lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, and climbing).
  • Strong reading, writing, and mathematical skills, with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Driver’s Abstract.

Salary Range

This position is included within the scope of the Town’s unionized setting (CUPE 2426) with a probationary wage of $29.58 per hour, upon completion of 480 hours the wage rate increases to $31.57 per hour, upon completion of 4160 hours the wage rate increases to $33.71 per hour, applied in accordance to the Collective Agreement.
