The Town of Morinville is seeking a Parks Operator II to join our Infrastructure Services team. Under the direction of the Team Lead, Parks, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing sports surfaces, green spaces, and public walkways, including winter safety upkeep. This role involves operating a variety of vehicles and equipment, performing skilled manual labor, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality services. Parks Operators work outdoors in various weather conditions, including hot and cold temperatures. The Parks Operator II may also act as Team Lead when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the assessment of equipment and provide input into equipment purchasing/replacement decisions.
  • Assist with the provision of ‘on the job’ training to new employees.
  • Coordinate daily tasks for seasonal workers.
  • Provide feedback on maintenance requirements on Town infrastructure to Team Lead.
  • Record accurate information related to daily, weekly, and monthly operations, snow clearance checklists, playground safety inspections and daily timesheets.
  • Acting Team Lead duties as required.
  • Apply equipment specific operation skills, techniques, and procedures in the performance of assigned all‐season maintenance activities related to Parks operations.
  • Operate municipal equipment such as ride mowers, hand tools, and sundry equipment and perform assigned work in a safe and responsible manner.
  • Perform daily maintenance checks and weekly servicing of all equipment operated to ensure equipment is maintained as outlined in the work procedures.
  • Turf management and weed control.
  • Maintaining flowers and shrub beds.
  • Tree management.
  • Sports field preparation and maintenance.
  • Playground maintenance.
  • Outdoor ice and snow removal on trails and sidewalks.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered).
  • Minimum of 2 years related experience in operation of equipment in support of Parks operations.
  • Valid Class 3 Alberta Operator’s Licence with Q endorsement is required.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding customer service abilities and aptitude for handling interactions with professionalism and respect, both with individuals from within and outside the organization.
  • The successful candidate is required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract.

Salary Range

This position is included within the scope of Morinville’s CUPE 2426 local bargaining unit and has a probationary wage of $29.11 per hour. Upon completion of 480 hours the wage rate increases to $31.08 per hour, and upon completion of 4,160 hours the wage rate increases to $33.20 per hour, which will be applied in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
