The opportunity

Leduc County is looking an experienced and highly motivated Parks Labourer – Seasonal to join our team. Reporting to the Manager – Parks, this exciting opportunity manual tasks involving physical effort and agility, using fundamental practices in the maintenance of parks, horticulture, and natural areas. As a member of the Parks team, the Parks Labourer is a key contributor to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Contributes to the maintenance of the department’s operational deliverables by performing work and adhering to departmental and municipal
    • Remedies and maintains the overall health of
    • Conducts safe herbicide application under the direction of a licensed Pesticide Applicator.
  • Performs a variety of horticulture tasks for the planting, cultivating, fertilizing, pruning and watering of trees, shrubs, flowers, and turf.
  • Performs maintenance of landscape features and vegetation along municipal trails, walkways, boulevards, municipal rights-of-ways, and within parks.
  • Operates various pieces of equipment including but not limited to trucks, grass trimmers, rototillers, hedge trimmers, and water pumps. Capable of attaching and pulling various trailers.

  • Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness

Requirements

What you need to succeed

Must-have

  • High school
  • A service focus with good communication and interpersonal
  • Ability to contribute effectively to a team environment and provide consistent, friendly, professional customer
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of horticultural pests and management of pest problems, landscape/home garden materials and design
  • Post-secondary education or enrolled in agricultural horticulture, plant science or related field of study or an agricultural background and/or experience is considered an
