The Opportunity
Do you want to make a positive impact on the lives of our citizens? Are you a dedicated and experienced professional with a passion for maintaining essential infrastructure and enhancing community spaces? If so, then this could be the role for you! Reporting to the Manager of Public Works, the Parks & Transportation Supervisor will play a fundamental role in the maintenance of the City’s infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for our citizens and overall community well-being. This position will oversee the operations of the Parks and Transportation service areas and will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and effective maintenance and management of city traffic controls, road repair, snow and ice control, drainage network, parks, sidewalks and trails, outdoor sports facilities, green spaces, and the city cemeteries.
- A Diploma in civil engineering with a minimum designation of certified engineering technologist (C.E.T.), or related field/certification.
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of experience in parks and/or transportation operations. Candidates with previous experience working in a public sector environment is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Three (3) years of progressive team management experience combined with strong management skills to effectively supervise, develop, inspire, and motivate a diverse team of employees.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and plan effectively to meet deliverables and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong understanding of OHS and Risk Management.
- Possess and retain a valid class 5 driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive operational knowledge of transportation and parks maintenance practices, techniques, and regulations.
- Strong understanding of road repair, snow and ice control, traffic control systems, landscaping, storm maintenance, turf management irrigation systems and cemetery operations.
- Excellent organizational and project management abilities, including the capability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proficiency in interpreting and implementing municipal bylaws, regulations, and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Strong computer software knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite of tools and other database and spreadsheet applications
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to lead the team, liaise with internal departments, contractors, community members, and stakeholders.
- Ability to identify and implement improvements for departmental efficiencies.
- Ability to provide a clear criminal record check and driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to the City.
