The Infrastructure Department is looking to hire an Operator for a 6-month term with a can-do attitude to join their team to ensure our municipal green spaces, assets and infrastructure are maintained at a level that our residents expect and appreciate.  Reporting to the Team Lead – Parks, the Operator is responsible for maintaining municipal assets and infrastructure including Parks, Playgrounds, Sport Fields, Trees and Shrubs, Parking lots, Sidewalks, Outdoor Rinks and more.  The individual we’re seeking is service focused, has excellent communication skills, and always has safety top-of-mind.

Key Responsibilities

What YOU’RE Responsible for:

  • Operating snow moving equipment – skid steers, tool cats, brooms, blades, tractors, blowers, sanders etc.
  • Completing daily inspections and work orders/service requests through Cityworks software in a timely manner
  • Operate Snow Removal Equipment safely and effectively
  • Maintaining equipment
  • Maintaining Outdoor Rinks
  • Snow Removal and sanding on sidewalks, trails, and parking lots
  • Involved in new employee orientations and training of operating procedures
  • Leading and mentoring casual staff
  • Collecting and disposing of garbage and litter when needed
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to stakeholders and residents
  • Following all health and safety policies and procedures
  • Providing guidance and supervising third-party contractors
  • Providing expert recommendations and advice to others for decision making
  • Assisting other service areas when needed and other duties as assigned

Requirements

As the successful candidate you will have the ability to:

  • Meet the shift requirement: shifts rotate seven days a week (weekend work is required)
  • Meet the physical requirements, including lifting heavy equipment and materials up to 23 kilograms (50 lbs.), adhering to long periods of standing and sitting, working in all weather conditions, etc.
  • Provide a clean criminal record check
  • Provide a driver’s abstract that demonstrates responsible and safe driving behavior
  • Adhere to all safety standards and promote the organization’s health and safety program
  • Keep detailed, accurate records in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Work and communicate effectively with the team, management, other city departments, and residents

What YOU Bring:

  • Experience operating snow moving equipment – skid steers, tool cats, brooms, blades, tractors, blowers, sanders etc.
  • Experience operating tractor mounted and self-propelled Zambonis
  • Ability to shovel snow for periods of time, if required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Related work experience
  • Class 5 driver’s license with Q endorsement
  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite and database management)
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable safety related legislation, regulations, guidelines, standards, and best practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • First aid and CPR

Assets:

  • Class 3 Drivers License
  • Small engine mechanics training
  • experience with City works or other service request tracking software
  • Other applicable training: Chainsaw Operations, Ground Worker Operations, Tree Hazard Assessment, Tree Felling, Tree Pest and Disease Management, Ropes/Knots/Rigging, Bolting and Cabling, Pruning, Barricading, Flagman, Fall Protection, Electrical Awareness, and WHMIS

What We Offer:

  • A salary range of $63,502.40 – $82,867.20 per annum (based on experience and qualifications)
