Key Responsibilities

What is the Opportunity?
Reporting to the Lead, Infrastructure Maintenance, this role is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of City-owned equipment and assets. Operators play a key role in supporting year-round infrastructure maintenance, working in all types of weather and road conditions. This position helps ensure the public can travel safely and efficiently within city limits, and supports the delivery of essential municipal services.

Requirements

What will you do?
As an Operator, Infrastructure Maintenance, you’ll ensure the safe operation and upkeep of City-owned
roadways and underground infrastructure. Your key responsibilities will include:
• Operate heavy equipment for road rehabilitation and maintenance, including snow clearing, sanding,
dust control, and street sweeping
• Perform pothole, crack sealing, injection patching, and infrared repairs
• Maintain roadway markings, street signage, and painting
• Conduct inspections, minimal repairs, and emergency response for traffic signals, signs, and lights
• Complete preventative maintenance and flushing of sewers and sanitary lines, as well as storm
sewer and catch basin cleaning and thawing
• Remove and restore manhole lids and ensure structural integrity of surrounding areas
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections of equipment; report and manage deficiencies
• Maintain cleanliness of City-owned equipment and facilities
• Participate in a rotating on-call schedule for emergency response, including weekends and holidays
• Supervise contractors or seasonal staff as needed and participate in cross-functional projects
• Attend weekly safety meetings and adhere to OH&S standards and City safety policies
• Remove debris, carcasses, and compostable materials from City roadways and ditches

Who you are?
You are a collaborative, safety-conscious operator who enjoys hands-on work and isn’t afraid of Alberta’s
dynamic weather conditions. You bring:
• Grade 12 High School Diploma
• 3–5 years of relevant experience in equipment operations, including operating heavy equipment
• Valid Class 3 Alberta Operator’s License with Air Brakes
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support team collaboration and public interaction
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively
• WHMIS, First Aid, and OHS certifications are assets
• Municipal operations and supervisory experience (e.g., leading small crews or training others) are
assets
• Must be proficient with basic computer systems used for documentation and communication
