Summary

The Municipal District of Pincher Creek has an opening for a Full-time Operator 2.   This is a CUPE Union position and is responsible to the Manager of Public Works, or their designate.

The Minimum requirement for this position is a Class 3 with Air Ticket, applicants with a Class 1 and experience in driving a snowplow is preferred.

Key Responsibilities

Position Overview

Public Works staff are responsible to action items  identified for the construction, maintenance and upkeep of roads, signs, lighting, storm water, wastewater, drinking water, municipality owned dams/bridges and other keystone aspects of every day life for the MD citizens and the public.

Employees in this position can safely and efficiently operator most small hand and power tools, in addition to light equipment such as skid steers, mowers, and water trucks.  In addition, they must be adept at reading and interpreting manuals, maps, and written information.

Responsibilities Overview

  • Safely and efficiently operate all PW Department small hand tools, power tools, and light equipment.
  • Safely and efficiently operate various types of equipment but not limited to skid steers, mowers, water trucks.
  • Perform various manual labour work including but not limited to flagging, snow fence, whipper snipping.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment. This includes but is not limited all MD staff, contractors, representatives of other agencies and members of the public.
  • Safely perform various assigned duties related to Public Works operations in a timely manner.
  • Complete assigned duties with little supervision.
  • Durations of strenuous physical work may exist.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, sit or stand for prolonged periods, climbing into and out of equipment.
  • Ability to work in various conditions (Cold, Hot, Wet).
  • Complete all relevant paperwork (Hazard Assessments).
  • Attend all safety and tailgate meetings.
  • Labour duties include but are not limited to snow fence installation/removal, flagging, mowing, general maintenance and cleaning waste/debris at various MD locations.
  • Follow all Safe Work Procedures and all MD policies.

Working Conditions

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, sit or stand for prolonged periods, climbing into and out of equipment.
  • Durations of strenuous physical work will occur.
  • Work is generally done out doors in a variety of industrial conditions and will include extreme weather conditions.
  • Sound and exhaust typically found in construction, agricultural, and industrial surroundings.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 1 or 3 with valid Air ticket (Q Endorsement)
  • WHMIS, TDG, Flagging, First Aid
  • Completion/Sign-off of training in relation to maintenance operations and safe work practices for light and heavy equipment including, but not limited to, skid steers, mowers, hand tools, hand power tools, trucks, and loaders.
