Legislative Services Clerk

Full Time, Temporary (up to 18 months) – competitive wage based on experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports the development, approval, communication, implementation and monitoring of the Town’s bylaws, administrative policies, operational procedures and legislative programs.
  • Oversees and carries out the process of meeting scheduling, preparation and distribution of agendas and materials for Council/Committee/Board and public hearings; bylaw preparation; distribution of all supporting material and minutes, decisions, instructions, and resolutions of Council to appropriate parties.
  • Maintains an up-to-date database of all Council resolutions, including status updates.
  • Facilitates meetings of Council and committees of Council, ensures meetings are conducted according to the Municipal Government Act, Council’s Procedure Bylaw and Robert’s Rules of Order.
  • Serves as Secretary to the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board.
  • Coordinates local government elections pursuant to the Local Authorities Election Act.
  • Undertakes and/or leads special projects and performs other duties as assigned, in accordance with departmental and corporate objectives.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary degree in public administration, political science, business, law or a related field
  • Minimum three (3) years of municipal experience in a legislative services or clerk role
  • Experience managing a municipal election is strongly preferred
  • Experience using iCompass for meeting management
  • Considerable knowledge of the Municipal Government Act, Robert’s Rules of Order, and the Local Authorities Election Act
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and SharePoint
  • Excellent knowledge of activities and requirements for the development of new bylaws and policies and the review of existing bylaws and policies
