Lamont County is seeking experienced and highly motivated individuals to join our team. We are looking for a Lead Mechanic to work in a fast-paced environment as part of the Public Works Department.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Operations Manager.
This role provides mechanical expertise in the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of all Lamont County vehicles and fleet. This includes the maintenance of heavy equipment, highway trucks, power tools and machinery, and assisting with the organization and maintenance of the Lamont County Shop.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Performs regular Journeyman-level repairs, overhauls and maintenance of various components including engines, brakes, transmissions, differentials, axles, hydraulic controls, pumps, compressors, and electrical components.
• Assists with repairs and maintenance on all types of heavy equipment/trucks—which may include motor graders, snow/sander trucks, gravel trucks, picker trucks, light trucks, cats, low bed trucks, tractors, track hoes, rubber-tired hoes, front-end loaders, bobcats, rotary mowers, steamers, rollers, compactors, etc.
• Assists with troubleshooting of equipment repairs, including inspecting all stages of the repairs using hydraulic and electronic schematics.
• Installs and maintains vehicle mounted equipment.
• Able to operate and understand the use of diagnostic equipment and software applications.
• Responds to service calls in the field and makes emergency repairs as required.
• Reports and documents any damages or malfunctions of operated equipment/trucks.
• Maintains proper documentation for work orders and CVIP records.
• Follows all safe work practices and procedures.
• Performs other duties as required.

Key Responsibilities

LEAD MICHANIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervises the Public Works shop.
• Assists with deploying shop staff effectively and efficiently to ensure optimum service levels.
• Contacts various equipment and truck dealers for warranty work and arranging repair location.
• Completes work orders and other items related to maintenance/mechanical repair of equipment & vehicles.
• Prepares repair estimates as required.
• Maintains and submits weekly time sheets.
• Assists with conducting toolbox safety meetings.

• Ensures all shop employees understand the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety regulations and that these are adhered to.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
• Licensed Red Seal or Journeymen Heavy-Duty Mechanic.
• Five+ years’ of work experience as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic.
• Valid Alberta Driver’s License (Class 1 considered an asset).
• On-road and off-road fleet experience.
• Possession of a valid CVIP technician license with CVIP writing experience.
• ECM Diagnostics experience.
• Forklift training and overhead crane training would be an asset.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word) and computer literacy.
