Key Responsibilities Include:
Parkland County has a seasonal position available in the Agricultural Services Department for a Horticulturist working approximately from April to October of each year. The Horticulturist is responsible for assisting with the planning and full implementation of the horticultural services program. This includes overseeing and coordinating the daily duties of the Horticultural Assistant; and developing and maintaining plants at County-owned facilities as well as County sign sites. This position also responds to horticultural inquiries, investigates complaints, and inspects new developments to ensure compliance with Landscaping Requirements. This position must be able to identify and manage hazardous trees on County property and monitor horticultural pests as they arise.
Completed post-secondary education in a recognized Horticulture program or related field.
Related experience in horticulture preferred.
Experience with plant and insect identification.
Related equipment operation experience (half-ton truck with or without a trailer, 4X4 ATV, push mower, weed eater, pruning equipment, fertilizer spreader, hand tools) is required.
Must be eligible to be appointed as an Inspector under the Agricultural Pests Act.
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License. Upon hire, a current Driver’s Abstract must be provided.
Rate of Pay: $27.61 per hour
Hours of Work: 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week
This position is covered by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local Union No. 955 Collective Agreement.
