Summary

The opportunity
Leduc County is looking for an experienced and highly motivated Heavy Equipment Operator to join our team. Reporting to the West Foreman, this exciting opportunity operates single and tandem axle trucks, graders, front-end loaders, and other medium and heavy weight construction equipment to support the maintenance of county roads and municipal infrastructure. The Heavy Equipment Operator is a key contributor to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

  • What you will do
    Operates heavy equipment such as tandem trucks with snowplow and wing attachments, graders, excavators, and front-end loaders, performing various road maintenance functions in the summer and snow and ice removal in the winter months.

    • Services and performs minor maintenance on assigned equipment.
    • Logs hours and complies with the Traffic Safety Act.
    • Performs various labourer duties as required.
  • Hauls and unloads various types of materials, gravel, earth, asphalt, water, and road equipment in designated areas for maintenance and construction as required.
  • Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
  • Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness Program.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

What you need to succeed
Must-have
• A high school diploma and a valid Class 3 Alberta Driver’s License.
• Three years of trucking experience or tandem axle plow/sand truck or other heavy equipment operation.
• A service focus with good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to have
• Familiarity with County operations and knowledge of rural communities.
• A Class 1 Alberta Driver’s license.

We offer a competitive salary between $30.53 to $38.16 per hour, a 100% employer-paid comprehensive benefits package, municipal pension plan, and a starting three-weeks vacation allocation.

The opportunity is permanent full-time and is 40 hours per week. This role is subject to exposure to inclement weather and road conditions. To meet operational needs, this role may be required to work daytime, evening and night shifts as required.
