POSITION DETAILS:

  • Salary Range: $35.65 – $43.37 per hour
  • Position Type: Permanent Full-Time
  • Hours of Work: Available to work non-regular hours if required, as per section six (6) “Hours of Work” of the Collective Agreement with I.U.O.E. local 955

Key Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Service, diagnose, repair, and maintain all County vehicles and equipment to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
  • Conduct thorough inspections to identify and address maintenance needs or potential issues.
  • Perform preventative maintenance to maximize reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Prioritize repair and maintenance tasks effectively, adapting to changing operational needs.
  • Complete assignments with precision and efficiency, managing time to meet deadlines.
  • Safely operate and demonstrate familiarity with overhead hoists, shop tools, mobile equipment (e.g., loaders, graders), and other machinery.
  • Perform general servicing of equipment and support other duties as assigned, reporting to the Shop Supervisor for additional instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free shop to ensure a safe work environment.

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Journeyman certification in Heavy Duty Equipment required; candidates with a 3rd-year Apprenticeship may be considered.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in heavy-duty mechanical maintenance and repair.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License, drivers abstract will be required for successful applicant.

QUALIFICATIONS AND PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and complete repairs within designated timeframes.
  • Demonstrate high level of technical knowledge in equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Highly organized and self-motivated, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for assigned tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with colleagues and interactions with the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks and operate heavy machinery safely.
  • Position may require working outdoors in various weather conditions.
