Summary

County of Barrhead is seeking to fill the role of Health & Safety Coordinator. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Health & Safety Coordinator is a proactive team player responsible for the overall guidance, technical support, and administration of the County’s Health & Safety Management System. The position is currently part-time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the implementation, administration, and maintenance of the County’s Health & Safety Management System in accordance with applicable legislation.
  • Monitor compliance with legislation and OHS Standards and recommend policies, directives, and necessary procedures for continual improvement and integration into the Health & Safety Management System.
  • Monitor Incident and Near Miss Reporting and analyze safety statistics.
  • Manage and facilitate the employee and contractor orientation process and training and re-certification of employees in relation to Health & Safety.
  • Provide leadership, technical expertise, and administrative support to the Joint Workplace Health & Safety Committee and its members.
  • Coordinate and implement workplace inspections, ensuring they are performed in accordance with the Health & Safety Management System.
  • Completing internal hazard and risk assessments for new and existing tasks.
  • Coordinate and implement the required internal and external audits.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to all areas of the organization with respect to Health & Safety.

Requirements

  • Health & Safety Diploma or Certificate
  • Minimum of 3 years of health and safety Previous municipal experience is an asset, but not a requirement
  • Knowledge of PIR/COR program requirements
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license and willingness to travel to various worksites within the County
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certificate
  • Certified AMSHA auditor (or comparable) would be an asset
  • Experience and knowledge of WCB legislation
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact with staff at various levels of the organization
  • General knowledge of the principles and practices of emergency management and emergency operations would be an asset
