GIS Asset Technician

Summary

Reporting to the Municipal Planner this position is responsible for the delivery of geospatial information system (GIS) services. This position will support, maintain, collect, analyze data, and improve asset management systems. This position will support Departments with GIS services, information access, and address internal and external GIS information requests. This position interacts with government agencies, engineering and consulting firms, internal Departments, the public, and developers. This position assists with service area projects, and supports other Departmental functions as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and edit geospatial data in the existing GIS environment
  • Maintain connections between the GIS environment, financial data, and asset management software
  • Perform data collection, data entry, and other tasks essential for maintaining accurate and up-to-date asset and GIS records in both the GIS environment and asset management software
  • Maintain access to GIS data for internal and external customers
  • Provide high quality maps and print large scale prints or posters
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of standardized business processes, workflows, reporting structures, and system configurations
  • Collaborate on the development and implementation of quality control procedures for asset data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness of information
  • Coordinate and collaborate with GIS, financial, and asset management software providers to maintain and improve the interface and overall system performance
  • Assign new civic addresses and notifications
  • Maintain and operate the plotter for large format printing
  • May be assigned a role within the Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) for Disaster Services
  • Supports Tangible Capital Asset (TCA) reporting requirements
  • Undertake other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Diploma, or Degree in GIS Technology, Engineering, or a related field
  • Professional certification or designation in Asset Management is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in a municipal work environment
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Asset Management
  • Equivalent experience and education may be considered
  • Strong knowledge of asset management principles, practices, and software systems
  • Experience with PSD Citywide
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Sequel Server, QGIS, other GIS platforms and AutoCAD
  • Knowledge of GIS and CAD practices and principles
  • Experience with computers and systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including a Criminal Record Check
  • A Class 5 Driver’s License and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
