Summary

Parkland County has an opportunity for a temporary, full-time Field Safety Technician position in the Employee Services Department until approximately October 2025.

The total rewards package for this position includes:

A starting annual salary of $61,800 to $77,300 based on a 35-hour work week and the option to join the Earned Day Off Program.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Supervisor, Health, Safety & Wellness, The Field Safety Technician works collaboratively with organizational leadership and field staff to ensure the effective delivery of the health and safety program to all levels of the organization. This position regularly attends field operations and safety meetings to provide safety program information and updates. Primary duties of this position include assisting with the incident investigation process, coordinating and conducting Worksite Inspections and providing coaching to field operations to ensure a safe work environment. This position will also create, review and update safety-related documentation, including safe work practices, hazard assessments and employee communication. This position also provides support with identifying and coordinating safety training and assists with safety and departmental initiatives.

Requirements

The ideal candidate for this position will have the following:

  • A high-school diploma with post-secondary coursework in Occupational Health & Safety. A post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety would be an asset.
  • Related experience with the demonstrated understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations and legislation, including roles and responsibilities, hazard assessment, and mitigation.
  • Working towards completion of or willingness to pursue certification as a Recognized Municipal Health and Safety Advisor (RMHSA) or a National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to train, coach and motivate staff on health and safety practices.
  • Computer proficiency (including Microsoft Office and safety management systems).
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team with time management and project planning skills to meet deadlines.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
