Summary

The Special Areas Board is seeking a Facilities Foreman to oversee facility construction/maintenance projects. Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this role is key to scheduling personnel, resources, and equipment to ensure smooth operations and a safe, productive work environment.
The Facilities Foreman will be responsible for organizing, scheduling and directing the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems, electrical and plumbing infrastructure, and other building components across a range of facilities within Special Areas. The role includes supervising skilled and semi-skilled contractors and staff in the upkeep and repair of Special Areas facilities, as well as handling additional maintenance tasks as assigned. Regular facility audits and inspections will also be part of the responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:
• Supervise, schedule, and assign maintenance teams across diverse projects, ensuring training, performance appraisals, and technical guidance for skilled and semi-skilled workers.
• Assist in budget planning for labor, materials, and facility projects, including estimating repair costs and managing project resources.
• Coordinate and oversee preventative and corrective maintenance, including work with outside contractors on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other facility components.
• Implement safety standards, lead safety meetings and enforce practices in alignment with the Special Areas Safety Program and policies.
• Provide recommendations on contract awards.
• Inspect completed work, ensure quality control, and maintain adherence to Occupational Health and Safety Standards.
• Respond to emergency repair needs, occasionally assist in performing trade skills, and ensure compliance with SAB service standards and procedures.
• Be the Hazardous Materials Specialist which includes identifying testing needs, monitoring maintenance activities, identifying abatement requirements and identifying contract needs for the Hazardous Material Program, to align to legislation and regulations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with five or more years of progressively responsible experience working with complex HVAC systems and equipment including boilers, AHU’s, MUA’s and BMS’s.
• Competent working knowledge in the care and use of commercial building systems, all tools and equipment common to this position.
• Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, tact and discretion in dealing with requests, complaints and clarification of information; proven ability to use good judgement to interpret, analyze and modify methods and procedures.
• Physical capability to perform the job duties required – lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Intermediate computer skills with average working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
• This is a designated safety sensitive position and mandatory pre-employment drug testing will be conducted
• Valid Class 5 AB Driver’s License – Class 3/Air (Q) Endorsement is an asset
• Journeyman ticket in carpentry, plumbing or electrical is not required but would be an asset.

Salary Range

Annual Salary at $69,159 - $84,464 depending upon experience, training and education
