Key Responsibilities Include:
This position is responsible for monitoring conditions of development permits and approvals while striving to achieve proactive and effective compliance. Reviews decisions on applicable development applications with a primary focus on development associated with Natural Resource Extraction. Provides information, consults involved parties, provides responses, and ensures compliance with approved permits, County statutory plans Land Use Bylaws, and related policies and procedures. Must be able to communicate effectively with all parties and levels of government involved and present the ability to interpret and understand applicable conditions and legislation; superior communication skills both verbal and written. Interprets and aids in understanding the Municipal Government Act, County Statutory Plans, Land Use Bylaw, and other government regulations, policies and procedures. Liaises with all required parties involved in the review of development approvals including internal departments, government agencies and industry on development-related approvals, ensuring that information and compliance are coordinated and cohesive.
Requirements:
The Candidate:
- Completion of Grade 12 or GED equivalent combined with a Certificate in Land Use Planning. A combination of education and experience may be considered as an equivalent;
- Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience, preferably in a rural municipal setting, in the capacity of a development officer or municipal bylaw enforcement officer and land use compliance related service area;
- Demonstrated capacity to interpret and apply the requirements of Planning and Local Governments Acts, the Safety Codes Act and associated regulations and policy framework as applicable to development;
- Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy, tact and discretion in dealing with requests, complaints and clarification of information. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. With the ability to work with the public and staff at all levels with the County with minimal supervision in a multiple task environment; and
- High degree of competency in using computers in the technical areas of word processing, spreadsheets, databases and presentation software and databases. (MS Suite preferred)
- Valid Alberta Operator’s License (no more than six (6) demerits).
Additional Job Information:
Salary Range: $76,889 to $91,809
Position Type: Full Time – Competitive Benefits Package / 35-hour work week Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm – 1 hour unpaid lunch
