What is the opportunity?

The City of Leduc is seeking an experienced Compensation and Job Design Consultant to join our Employee Services team. Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards, you will provide expertise in job evaluation, compensation analysis, position management, and organizational design. This role also involves aligning compensation strategies with industry best practices and collaborating with leadership and external consultants to support organizational goals.

We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented professional, who embodies a commitment to excellence and integrity. Your strong communication skills, ability to lead projects, and focus on fostering collaboration will be key to effectively supporting stakeholders and delivering optimal service to Leduc residents.

Key Responsibilities

What will you do?

  • Conduct thorough evaluations to assess the relative value of positions, ensuring accurate job classification, updated job descriptions, and internal equity using established evaluation plans.
  • Analyze market compensation data and trends to assess salary competitiveness, conduct benchmarking, and manage compensation structures, making recommendations for adjustments to align with organizational strategy.
  • Oversee the creation, maintenance, and classification of position data, supporting the development of new roles and restructuring existing positions to ensure consistency across the organization.
  • Lead job and organizational design initiatives, analyzing current roles, aligning structures with strategic goals, and providing guidance on best practices for implementation.
  • Support change management efforts related to organizational design and restructuring, offering expertise to leadership on policy interpretation, HR practices, and legislative guidelines.
  • Independently research, analyze, and recommend best practices for job evaluation, compensation, and organizational changes, making decisions that impact compensation structures and position management.
  • Updating compensation strategies and policies for the organization to align with best practices.

Requirements

What do you need to succeed?

  • Bachelor’s degree with a specialization in Human Resources, Business or related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years in compensation analysis, job evaluation, organization design, and position management.
  • Experience with Workday software is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of compensation principles and job evaluation methodologies, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HR management concepts and principles, legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Exceptional ability in establishing and managing relationships with senior-level managers and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to analyze, integrate, and manipulate data information from multiple sources to form a comprehensive perspective.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with limited direction and use independent judgment to problem solve and interpret policy and collective agreements when more than one option is possible.
  • Ability to achieve results, take initiative and be flexible and responsive to changing priorities and circumstances.
  • Strong written communication as well as developed verbal, facilitation, and presentation skills.

Preferred:

  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR).
  • Training or experience in job evaluation, compensation analysis, project management and change management.
  • Familiarity working with Workday HCM System.
