We are currently recruiting for a permanent, full-time Carpenter for our Facility and Property Services Department.

What is this opportunity?

The Carpenter reports directly to the Lead, Facility and Property Services. The Carpenter is responsible for maintaining all City facilities within their expertise, ensuring they operate efficiently with user-friendliness in mind. This role involves performing a variety of skilled carpentry tasks on buildings and equipment, often with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include conducting repairs and installations to ensure structural integrity, collaborating with maintenance staff to prioritize tasks, and performing routine inspections to address potential issues proactively. The Carpenter must maintain an organized work environment, adhere to safety standards, and provide excellent customer service to facility users by addressing their needs promptly. This position also requires a high level of craftsmanship, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while ensuring all tasks meet the highest standard.

Key Responsibilities

What will you do?

  • Perform a variety of skilled carpentry duties on building and equipment, adhering to safe work practices and applicable codes
  • Repair and adjust window and door frames as well as floor repairs as required
  • Rebuild cupboards, shelves and other equipment as required
  • Fabricate and install a variety of items from wood or other materials, using a full range of hand and power tools
  • Structural inspections of the building envelope
  • Perform tasks such as framing, siding and form work
  • Complete work request, preventative maintenance and other activities assigned on Assetplanner Software
  • Assist as required with setup and take down of equipment and furniture including the transporting of furniture and equipment from one worksite to another

Requirements

What do you need to succeed?

You are an ideal candidate if you have the following:

  • 5 years as a journey person related experience, or 10 years of varying carpentry experience.
  • A thorough understanding of the principles of carpentry and their application on a wide variety of installations and equipment.
  • A sound knowledge of shop mathematics, including elementary geometry, is required.
  • An understanding of the principles that apply to construction, the use of shop and hand tools, the properties of various materials and of the techniques used to build modify and repair structures to withstand various loads.
  • Knowledge related to general building maintenance and systems
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Standards
  • Knowledge of Hazard Assessment and Control
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload efficiently
  • Possess superior interpersonal, public relations and verbal/written communication skills

Successful candidate must be willing to provide Driver’s Abstract and CRC at own expense, and an Enhanced Security Clearance will be required.
