Purpose of the position:

The Business Development Manager contributes to Lac La Biche County’s economic growth by focusing on business attraction and job creation. As a member of the Strategy & Community Growth team, this role collaborates with internal teams, local businesses, and external partners to identify and pursue opportunities that bring new businesses to the County and expand existing ones. A central responsibility is to support the development and execution of the County’s economic growth strategy, ensuring it aligns with the County’s long-term objectives. This role aims to create a supportive and thriving business environment that fosters sustainable job creation and enhances the quality of life for residents.

The position will be responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Developing and implementing strategies and campaigns for business attraction and job creation in key sectors such as tourism, agriculture, renewable energy, and technology.
  • Developing and executing
  • Establishing and maintaining strategic external and internal relationships to support economic growth;
  • Developing, coordinating, and monitoring a program budget;
  • Preparing reports, recommendations, and providing information in support of economic investment matters to ensure relevant/current data is collected and shared (and delivering to Council & Senior Leadership);
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

To be successful in this position, you will come to us with:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Economic Development, Administration (Commerce), Business Development, or a closely related field is required. A Master’s Degree would be an asset.
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ progressive experience in economic development or related field, along with 3-5 years related management or leadership experience.
    • A combination of related education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in Marketing and Public relations preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in preparing business proposals and reports.
  • Proven experience and knowledge in business planning with strong communication skills from working with multiple stakeholder groups and government agencies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • A satisfactory Drivers Abstract and Criminal Record Check
