$69,347.20 – $86,694.40/annum

We are currently recruiting for a permanent, full-time Building Operator for our Facility Services Department.

What is this opportunity?

The Building Operator reports directly to the Lead, Facility Services. The Building Operator is responsible for the operation, installation, preventative maintenance and repair of all mechanical and architectural components, fixtures and equipment within all City facilities. This position provides exceptional customer service and represents the department with a high degree of service excellence. This position also involves maintaining records and data entry related to facility maintenance, coordinating contracted services, sourcing supplier and ordering parts and equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities

What will you do?

  • Provide excellence in customer service by responding to service requests (such as heating/cooling calls), general maintenance calls and emergencies in a timely and professional manner
  • Ensure maximum energy efficiency of operating equipment by inspecting/operating/maintaining and repairing mechanical/electrical systems and equipment (including but not limited to boilers, chillers, air handling systems, pumps, life safety systems, pool and ice systems
  • Analyze, modify and adjust operation of major building equipment using BMS as conditions require
  • Perform daily inspection rounds and log readings
  • Make architectural repairs including maintenance painting, carpentry and carpet installs
  • Complete general mechanical and facility maintenance duties including filter changes of air handling equipment
  • Ensure and verify that the equipment is in good working order and operates safely and in compliance with any pertinent safety or building codes
  • Record work completed and cost associated with service requests in the Asset Planner system

Requirements

What do you need to succeed?

You are an ideal candidate if you have the following:

  • High school diploma
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • A journeyperson certificate or comparable license is preferred or 10 years of professional experience in any one discipline may be considered in lieu of certification or Minimum 5th Class Power Engineering license registered and in good standing with ABSA
  • Five years’ experience in building maintenance or building mechanical
  • Knowledge related to general building maintenance and systems
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Standards
  • Basic computer skills
  • Possess superior interpersonal, public relations and verbal/written communication skills
  • Pool operator Certificate is an asset
  • Facility management (BOMI/IFMA) certification or working towards is an asset
