Lacombe County is hiring a permanent, full-time Agricultural Field Operations Lead to oversee our roadside spraying and mowing operations. Key Responsibilities

What You’ll Do (in the Spring/Summer)

Lead & Direct Mowing/Spraying Operations
• Oversee daily roadside mowing and spraying activities across Lacombe County to ensure roadways are well-maintained, safe, and visually appealing. Plan and coordinate the mowing and spraying schedules, adjusting for weather conditions and vegetation growth. Train, mentor, and supervise the team of four mower operators and one spray truck operator. Respond to equipment breakdowns in the field, assisting the operators with troubleshooting and performing minor repairs to keep operations running smoothly.
Contract Coordination
• Investigate beaver control requests from the public, and coordinate beaver control activities in partnership with Lacombe County’s beaver control contractor and the County’s Operations department in accordance with Lacombe County policies and procedures.

What You’ll Do (in the Fall/Winter) 

Oversee the Ag Plastics & Twine Recycling Program
• Work directly with agricultural producers to facilitate the collection and recycling of grain bags, and collect twine from local transfer stations.
Coyote Control
• Investigate coyote control requests and assist landowners with implementing coyote control strategies to mitigate coyote damage.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
• Perform winter maintenance on the roadside mowing and sprayer units. Prepare machinery for the upcoming season to ensure smooth operations.

Requirements

What we’re Looking For:

• Background in agriculture, equipment operation, and leadership. Able to perform light maintenance on agriculture equipment. Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions. Capable of performing physical tasks such as bending, lifting and moving objects (up to approx. 50lbs).
• Prioritizes workplace safety by actively participating in safety initiatives and participating in safety meetings as required.
• Possesses, or is willing to obtain: a valid Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate (Industrial Class) from the Province of Alberta and a valid Form 7 Permit from the Province of Alberta.
• Hold and maintain a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License (current abstract required upon hire).
• This is a safety/sensitive position, requiring Pre-employment Drug and Alcohol Testing.
