Starland County is seeking an organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team in the position of Administrative Assistant in Assessments.

The successful applicant will be required to work a 35-hour work week, Monday to Friday. A clear Criminal Record Check needs to be completed prior to commencement of employment. We offer a competitive benefits and pension package.

Key Responsibilities

The job duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Generate and distribute annual tax & assessment notices
  • Balancing, applying and posting assessment
  • Maintenance and balancing of tax rolls
  • Administer the TIPP (tax Installment Payment Plan) program
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure and interruptions
  • Manage and keep current tax and assessment rolls with data from Land Titles, Municipal Affairs, the County’s Assessor, and property owners
  • Generate and distribute Tax Certificates
  • Exceptional customer service and provide support to other administrative staff
  • Interact with rate payers and provide answers regarding tax and assessment questions
  • Administration of recreation grants
  • Assist receptionist with payments, customer inquires, answering phones, etc.
  • Cash receipting and deposits as required

Requirements

The preferred qualifications for this position include a post-secondary education in finance, accounting, business administration or a other related field and a good working knowledge of tax and assessment legislation, regulations, policies and practices. The preferred candidate will have 1-3 years of experience in a similar type of role with working knowledge of the Municipal Government Act. The successful candidate must be able to maintain confidentiality as well as have a high-quality verbal and written communication skills. Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office, strong organizational skills and high attention to detail are essential.
