Summary

This position provides the necessary support to enable day-to-day bookkeeping, basic accounting, payroll, utility billing, tax billing, cemetery inquiries, and support to the CAO with applicable legislative requirements for the Town of Viking.  This position operates with limited supervision for routine work and can identify when direction is required and respond easily to new assignments.

Key Responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and process financial transactions (cash receipts, accounts receivable/payable, bank deposits) on a timely basis, ensuring accuracy.
  • Assist with the preparation, documentation and attend Council meetings.
  • Assist the CAO with Legislative requirements.
  • Respond to both telephone and counter inquiries.
  • Manage emails and regular mail.
  • Preparation of Utility, Bulk and Raw Water billing.
  • Coordination of Bylaw complaints and infractions with Officer/Public Works.
  • Payroll, Pension and Benefits Coordination.
  • Assist with preparation of annual Property Taxes.
  • Issuing annual Business and Pet Licenses.
  • Update Tax and Utility accounts with Land Title changes.
  • Provide support to the Financial Officer when needed.
  • Promote a high degree of good public relations on behalf of the Town of Viking.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma
  • Post-Secondary Education or years of experience in equivalency
  • Computer literacy
  • Experience in accounting and municipal environment (Muniware)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, Google Docs etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles and practices is required
  • Experience with the responsibility of supporting the bookkeeping, basic accounting and payroll is a definite asset.
