Summary

The Solutions Navigation and Social Supports Supervisor plays a pivotal leadership role within Strathcona County’s Family & Community Services Department, guiding the Solutions Navigation, Home Help, and Walk-In Support & Operations teams. Beyond day-to-day oversight, this position also provides strategic leadership to several high-impact collaborative projects that strengthen community well-being.

As a key member of the supervisory team, this role is responsible for strategic planning, program oversight, evaluation, and continuous improvement across multiple service areas. This position also leverages extensive knowledge and expertise to inform and shape social policy, driving innovative approaches that support residents and enhance community impact.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and supervision across several program areas, orchestrating a number of activities simultaneously, establishing priorities, and remaining vigilant for situations that may escalate and require intervening
  • Actively work with interdepartmental and community organization contacts to develop, implement, evaluate and revise vetting programs (recreation, transit, subsidy, rebate, volunteer, etc), partnership programs (with Library, Food Bank, seniors groups, schools), protocols (Violence Trauma Suicide Prevention, Family Violence, etc), grant funded projects (Family Violence, Pathways for Change, etc) and interbranch collaborations (communications, outcomes, etc), this includes documenting planning, decisions, and significant updates to the work
  • Actively participate within Community Safety and Well-being action tables (i.e. Food Security, Affordable Housing, Extreme Weather) and other community-wide initiatives
  • Participate in Branch Leadership activities including setting branch priorities, principles, processes and guidelines that align with corporate and departmental directions, and adhere to relevant legislations and regulations and departmental leadership that informs cross-branch and community-based initiatives, as well as, social policy
  • Develop and maintain processes and systems for capturing program data, case management, and evaluation

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A university degree in social sciences from a recognized post-secondary institution, registration with a regulatory body is highly desirable
  • Minimum of 3 years-supervisory experience with proven leadership abilities and the ability to effectively manage change, diversity and conflict
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience providing support to individuals and families in complex circumstances with multiple, often complex, issues with experience across a wide range of social sectors and issues
  • Training in family violence, mental health, addictions, suicide risk, and safety planning is required
  • Experience developing, implementing and evaluating service delivery approaches, projects and programs with experience in strategic planning, process and protocol development is an asset
  • Ability to forge strong relationships for collaborative teamwork with colleagues and with community stakeholders (government and non-government) is critical
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and rapidly transition between tasks while meeting deadlines and priorities
  • Demonstrates leadership by articulating the program and department vision, effectively motivates and guides others toward these goals, can see both the “big picture” and “operational” perspectives
  • Ability to independently think, as well as the ability to make decisions and facilitate decision-making in others
  • Ability to recognize safety for self and others in ambiguous situations based on professional judgement and experience

Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Intervention Record Check  

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s license and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
