Summary

Reporting to the Childcare Programs Supervisor, this position is primarily responsible for providing team leadership to the Hinton Kids for Success (HKFS) program and Discovery Camp (DC) program, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children, and ensuring that all licensing standards are maintained. This position works closely with other municipal staff, community organizations, the HKFS and DC caregivers, and customers.

Key Responsibilities

WORK RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Mentor and encourage all staff in the delivery of a quality childcare program that meets or exceeds all expected standards
  • Report all minor and major accidents, problems and disturbances, incidents, and site damage to the Childcare Programs Supervisor and ensure all appropriate forms are filled out accurately and completely in adherence to the Government standard for Alberta childcare programs
  • Plan and submit monthly program schedules for HKFS and DC activities to the Childcare Programs Supervisor. This includes:
    • detailed daily activity plans, including local field trips, with the themes of community connection, mental health/fitness, nature/environment, and challenge/self-image; and
    • Special events
  • Seek input from the Childcare Programs Supervisor that adheres to policies and procedures of the HKFS and DC programs and ensure that program plans and activities are completed according to these standards
  • Be fully aware of the contents of the HKFS and DC Policy & Procedures Manual and adhere to all childcare policies of FCSS and the Alberta Child Care and Licensing Act and Regulations.
  • Adhere to staff to child ratio licensing requirements
  • Assist with ensuring that staff understand their responsibilities for appropriate responses to emergencies
  • Assist with conducting regular monthly fire evacuation drills with the children in accordance with the Alberta Childcare Care Licensing Regulations
  • In the absence of the Childcare Programs Supervisor, respond to parents’ questions and concerns to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Pro-actively identify and solve problems and areas of concern for staff in collaboration with the Childcare Programs Supervisor
  • Ensure that the staff understand their responsibilities to prepare and serve a snack to the children in the program, according to the Service Plan
  • Inventory day to day supplies and equipment
  • Report major staff issues to the Childcare Programs Supervisor
  • In consultation with the Childcare Programs Supervisor, proactively identify and work to resolve any concerns in a timely manner
  • Prepare marketing materials for the program
  • Follow Canada’s food guidelines while making the snack menu
  • Assist in grocery shopping as assigned
  • Ensure list of program supplies are maintained and supplies are stocked for the upcoming months activities
  • Maintain emergency contact list for children in the program
  • Complete Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA) as assigned
  • Undertake other duties as assigned

  • Provide a service-oriented focus with staff, volunteers, agencies (local and provincial), customers, and the public

  • Proven discretion with an understanding of confidentiality requirements in compliance with applicable legislation

Requirements

  • Certified Childcare Worker
    • Level II Early Childhood Certificate required
  • Valid First Aid and CPR-C Certificate
  • Minimum 1 year of work experience in child development
  • Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • Working knowledge of computers and systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Alberta Child Care Licensing Act and Regulations
  • Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Welfare Check
  • A Class 5 Driver’s License and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
