• Completion of Grade 12 (or GED) is required. Preference will be given to applicants with post-secondary education in agriculture, natural resources, or a related field. A combination of education, skills, and directly related experience will be considered, provided the applicant holds and maintains a valid Pesticide Applicator’s License in Alberta. Must also maintain Vendor and Service Registration and a valid Form 7 Certificate for the municipality through Alberta Environment.
• Strong working knowledge of applicable provincial legislation, including the Agricultural Service Board Act, Weed Control Act, Agricultural Pests Act, and Soil Conservation Act, with the ability to interpret and apply this legislation to support local agricultural needs.
• Deep understanding of pesticide use, including chemical, biological, environmental, regulatory, and sustainability considerations. Demonstrated expertise in plant biology and identification, grassland ecology, and agronomy.
• Practical knowledge of local agricultural production practices such as livestock management, cropping systems, irrigation, and forage production. Experience with soil and water conservation programming suited to semi-arid environments.
• Skilled in communicating effectively with rural producers, coworkers, industry partners, and the public—both in writing and in person. Strong extension and public engagement abilities, including delivering producer outreach through articles, workshops, and public events.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, GIS systems, and municipal data management platforms such as Dynamics.
• Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license with experience operating farm machinery, ATVs, and UTVs.
