Summary

The County of Vermilion River is seeking an individual to join our Public Safety – Peace Officer Program.

A competitive salary and comprehensive municipal benefits package are available. The successful candidate will be required to provide a criminal record check and driver’s abstract. Key Responsibilities

• Enforcing Municipal and Provincial statutes
• Protecting infrastructure through weights and measures enforcement
• Community safety and rural crime prevention engagement
• Proactive and high visibility patrolling
• Responding to emergency scenes in assistance to regional partners
• Bylaw enforcement on occasion

Requirements

KEY QUALIFICATIONS
• Ability to immediately possess a Level 1 Peace Officer Appointment including valid Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE)
• Class ‘5’ License with acceptable driver’s abstract
Additional qualifications that are considered an asset:
• Specialized training in weights & dimensions, dangerous goods and cargo securement
• Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or equivalent
• LIDAR/RADAR certification
• Firearm familiarity preferably through a possession acquisition license or Shotgun Operator Course
• Previous law enforcement experience, preferably in a rural agricultural setting
• Emergency Services background, gained through a combination of experience and/or education

SKILLS
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; able to communicate professionally, deal effectively with people in difficult situations, develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with employees, Council and members of the public
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong work ethic and highly motivated
• Ability to work alone in a large rural County with minimal supervision while maintaining communication with a dedicated dispatch centre
