Summary

The opportunity

Leduc County is looking an experienced and highly motivated Municipal Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Manager – Engineering, this exciting opportunity provides engineering reviews, technical support and coordination in municipal land development, subdivision planning, and municipal utility projects. Through managing priorities and the coordination of work, the municipal engineer is a key contributor to the achievement of the department’s operational deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

What you will do

  • Provides engineering services and technical support.
    • Assists in the administration and delivery of County infrastructure maintenance and construction projects.
    • Reviews and provides technical input on infrastructure and environmental reports and studies.
  • Reviews engineering documentation related to area structure plans, subdivision development and confirms compliance with engineering and development standards.
  • Provides information and advice on infrastructure inventory and municipal servicing standards and reviews engineering drawings and reports for compliance with municipal servicing standards to residents, developers, agents and consultants.
  • Inspects land development projects and completes construction completion certificate inspections and final acceptance certificate inspections, making recommendations to the senior municipal engineer for issuance.
  • Collects and maintains asset management data for County infrastructure.
  • Researches and carries out special projects, studies and reports as assigned.
  • Adheres to guidelines as set out in Leduc County’s policies and administrative directives.
  • Accountable for working in compliance with the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and participation in the Health, Safety and Wellness program.

Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

What you need to succeed

Must-have

  • A degree in civil engineering or related discipline, as well as three to five years of experience.
  • Maintain membership in the Association of Professional Engineer and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.).
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information and provide consistent, friendly, professional customer service to internal and external customers in the face of ongoing change, regular interruptions and the pressure of deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • The ability to prepare clear, concise reports.
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license.

Nice to have

  • A working knowledge of database management.
  • Experience or knowledge of urban and rural infrastructure, traffic, drainage, rural roadway operation and construction, and water, wastewater and solid waste disposal systems.
  • Experience or knowledge with AutoCAD, Geographic Information System (GIS) and project management standards related to the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with municipal operations, and knowledge of rural communities.
