Preamble:

WHEREAS many delegates choose to leave the convention after the government luncheon on Thursday;AND WHEREAS the Thursday afternoon business, evening banquet and social requires delegates, especially those who travel a long distance, to commit an additional day;AND WHEREAS there could be sufficient time on the Monday afternoon to conduct opening ceremonies and other official business of the Association;AND WHEREAS reducing the length of convention could mean some cost savings for each jurisdiction.

Operative Clause:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties annual Fall Convention start on Monday at 3:00 p.m. and end Thursday after the government luncheon.

Member Background:

Those delegates who travel longer distances generally commit the whole of Monday to the Convention anyway and most arrive by about 3:00 p.m. For this reason, some convention business could be carried out Monday before the Wine and Cheese Reception. The big rub becomes what to do with the Association Banquet and Social Evening. As it currently stands, a lot of tickets are either wasted or used by friends because many delegates have left. There are basically two options. The Association Banquet and Social Evening could be scrapped or moved to Wednesday evening. It is suggested that a vote be taken by the delegates to see which option is preferred.
