WHEREAS available and affordable seniors housing continues to be a significant issue for low income seniors;AND WHEREAS the Province is no longer in the business of funding the construction of seniors housing;AND WHEREAS the Alberta Housing Act, being Chapter A-30-1, SA, 1994 authorizes Management Bodies to requisition on the property tax base of municipalities for both capital and operational costs of providing lodge accommodation;AND WHEREAS lodges in smaller rural municipalities are of a size that is not conducive to operating at a profit;AND WHEREAS private enterprise has expressed an interest in the construction of lodges, especially if incentives are provided;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties urge the provincial government to investigate innovative methods of providing funding for the construction of lodge facilities.
