Preamble:

WHEREAS the Province of Alberta has announced its intent to assume the direction, control and management of secondary highways;AND WHEREAS the Province of Alberta has set a target date of September 15, 2001 to complete the transition of jurisdiction for secondary highways from rural municipalities;AND WHEREAS a joint committee has been established to review and make recommendations on levels of service on secondary and primary highways;AND WHEREAS Alberta Infrastructure has indicated its intent to control dust as required and does not plan to participate in a private resident program for dust abatement;

Operative Clause:

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties encourage Alberta Infrastructure to reconsider its position and establish a private residential dust abatement program on gravel secondary highways in Alberta, to be made available to interested individuals on a cost-sharing basis.
