Webinar on Agriculture First Initiative for Renewable Energy Development

Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation is hosting a webinar followed by a survey to gain input from stakeholders

Earlier this year the Government of Alberta committed to developing policy, legislation, and regulatory changes to support an Agriculture First approach to renewable energy development. As a next step, Alberta Agriculture and Irrigation is engaging with stakeholders on how to best balance renewable development with agricultural land preservation. Engagement will include an introductory webinar to provide stakeholders with key background information and context, followed by a questionnaire to allow stakeholders to provide their perspectives and on challenges and opportunities related to development of renewable energy projects on agricultural land.

The webinar will be held on July 24 at 1:30 pm. Pre-registration is required. Questions about the webinar can be directed to Karen Sundquist, Manager of Land Use Policy or Virginia Nelson, Director of Natural Resource Analysis, at AGI.AgricultureFirst@gov.ab.ca.

Note that this engagement process is separate from the AUC’s engagement on Rule 007, which also includes an opportunity for participants to provide input on agricultural land impacts associated with renewable energy development.

The RMA will continue to share opportunities to participate in engagements related to renewable energy development.
