Volunteers: The Heart of Our Communities

Volunteers are the heart of any community. They help bring the community together and show love and support, while not costing the ratepayers. But having volunteers does not mean that we step away from vetting the personnel that are representing the organization. Unfortunately, not everyone can or should be a volunteer. While we encourage everyone who wants to volunteer to come forward, we need to stop and think about a few things:

  • What is the position we are looking to fill with a volunteer?
  • Are there physical requirements?
  • Will we need to complete a vulnerable sector check?
  • What is the level of risk involved?
  • What training courses need to be provided?
    – Food Handling Course
    – First Aid
    – WHMIS
    – ProServe

These can seem like daunting questions. RMA strives to provide documents to ease the stress of hiring volunteers. We have created a Volunteer Package document to help you respond to these types of questions and pick the right volunteers for the task.

Will our insurance respond if a claim is reported?

Once you have selected the right volunteers for the tasks, there is coverage available in the event of a claim. Your policy would respond to defend, should it be named in a claim, subject of course to the terms, conditions, deductibles, warranties, exclusions, and extensions of the policy.

Should a claim arise, please reach out to our team at claims@rmainsurance.com.
