Upcoming Budget 2026 Release

The Government of Alberta plans to release the 2026 Provincial Budget on February 26.

The Government of Alberta will introduce Budget 2026 in the legislature on February 26. RMA continues its long‑standing commitment to ensuring that rural perspectives are reflected in provincial budget decisions and will be reviewing the budget to understand how upcoming fiscal choices may impact rural municipalities.

In advance of the release, RMA encourages members to revisit its Budget 2026 submission, which outlines rural funding priorities and recommendations aimed at strengthening municipal viability and supporting sustainable rural growth, which RMA submitted to the Government of Alberta in December 2025 as part of the formal budget consultation process. The submission emphasizes the important role rural municipalities play in maintaining vibrant communities and contributing to Alberta’s economic strength.

RMA’s Budget 2026 submission is organized around four themes:

  • Strong and Viable Municipalities
  • Rural Municipal Industrial Investment
  • Rural Economic Development
  • Community Support and Resilience

Each theme includes background information, budget‑related recommendations, targeted ministries, and a clear explanation of why these issues are critical to rural Alberta. The submission also highlights the ongoing rural municipal infrastructure deficit and calls for targeted, predictable investment to support long‑term rural sustainability.

RMA will publish its initial response to Budget 2026 on February 27. This response will provide an initial reaction to the budget, outline major funding allocations, identify notable increases or reductions, and offer a preliminary analysis of how the budget may affect rural municipalities. Members are encouraged to watch for this release through RMA’s communication channels.

RMA looks forward to reviewing Budget 2026 and continuing to advocate for strong, resilient rural communities across Alberta.
