Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors (TEC) is undertaking a multi‑year modernization of the provincial Bridge Information System and updating provincial bridge inspection standards. This work includes developing a new integrated bridge management platform, transitioning to element‑level bridge inspections, and releasing an updated version of the provincial Bridge Inspection Manual.
The modernization introduces new inspection standards and procedures designed to improve the quality and consistency of bridge data, support risk‑based decision‑making, and strengthen long‑term asset management for both the province and municipalities.
For more information, TEC has developed this one-pager for RMA members.
To support engagement with the rural municipalities who will be significantly impacted by this undertaking, TEC will also be hosting a virtual information session to outline the planned changes, share timelines for implementation, and gather feedback on municipal needs related to bridge inspection and data management.
The session is scheduled to be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Members are invited to register for the webinar at this link. The session will be recorded for those members who are unable to attend, and the recording and engagement survey will be shared with members the following week in the Contact newsletter.
RMA is hopeful the outcomes of this modernization project will have positive impacts on rural municipalities’ asset management practices, but member engagement will be essential to ensure that rural municipal perspectives are fully reflected in TEC’s planning and implementation.
