The Government of Alberta has launched the second intake for the Rural Team Recruitment Grant Program.
The Rural Team Recruitment Grant Program is now accepting applications from rural clinics and community organizations across the province. This grant supports that recruitment of new non-physician, non-nurse practitioner primary care team members, with the goal of helping to improve access to care in rural and remote communities.
The program covers 50% of the total costs towards salary and benefits for new non-physician and nurse practitioner primary care team members for two years. Up to $72,500 will be provided to support each new hire through grant funding.
Applications for this grant close on October 28, 2025.
RMA members passed resolution 1-24F: Attraction and Retention Strategy for Rural Health Care Professionals, which clearly states a need for long-term sustainable funding to increase the total number of health care professionals in rural and remote Alberta. Unfortunately, this grant will provide short-term assistance for the recruitment of primary care providers but is not a sustainable solution to the challenge of recruiting and retaining health care professionals in rural Alberta.
RMA will continue advocating for better support for the recruitment and retention of health care workers in rural Alberta.
