In response to the Government of Alberta’s release of Budget 2026, RMA released an Initial Analysis on February 27. As a follow up to that initial analysis, RMA has created a detailed response document that builds on its pre-budget submission. This new analysis explores where Budget 2026 aligns with RMA’s pre-budget submission and identifies future advocacy for budget requests that were not met.
The analysis centres on four themes:
- Strong and Viable Municipalities
- Rural Municipal Industrial Investment
- Rural Economic Development
- Community Support and Resilience
Additionally, included in the analysis is a section comparing Budget 2026 to the recommendations put forward in RMA’s Closing the Gap campaign, which demonstrated that investment in rural infrastructure is an investment in Alberta’s economic future.
