RMA’s position on the sub-council is currently vacant.
The Safety Codes Council (SCC) is a statutory corporation that oversees the development and administration of safety standards throughout the province. The SCC includes twelve sub-councils focused on reviewing and developing safety codes for specific disciplines.
RMA serves as a nominating organization for one position on the SCC’s Building Sub-Council. The Building Sub-Council members regularly meet to address building industry issues and ensure a safe built environment, volunteering their time to make the province safer.
Those considered for nomination should be actively engaged in the safety codes system. They should possess significant knowledge and experience with building code safety. More information, including the detailed competencies required to serve effectively on the Building Sub-Council are available in the member description. Additionally, the specific RMA representative on the committee must meet the following qualifications:
- Professional designation either through AAA, ASET or APEGA; a Building SCO designation may also be considered (required)
- Minimum 8+ years’ experience (required)
- Understanding of municipal Land Use Bylaws, zoning and listed uses (required)
- Understanding of the NBC(AE) with an elevated understanding of Part 3 & Part 9 e) Understanding of the National Farm Building Code (required)
- Membership with the Alberta Professional Planners Institute or Canadian Association of Certified Planning Technologists (preferred)
Anyone meeting the competencies and qualifications requirements is encouraged to apply. Applications must consist of a brief profile that lists background, experience, and contact information of the candidate. The profiles are necessary to ensure that only those with appropriate qualifications, experience, and knowledge are appointed as members of Council in compliance with the criteria established in the Safety Codes Act, Council bylaws, and Council policy.
