RMA Releases Week 4 of Closing the Gap Infrastructure Funding Campaign

Over the first three weeks of the Closing the Gap campaign, RMA has highlighted the widening rural infrastructure funding gap, demonstrated how rural transportation networks power Alberta’s economic engine, and underscored the urgent need to build long‑term resilience into the roads, bridges, and utilities that support Alberta’s industries and communities. Together, these themes show that Alberta’s prosperity depends on reliable rural infrastructure, and that the current approach to investing in rural infrastructure is not keeping pace with rural realities.

Now, in Week 4, RMA presents our recommendations for modernizing Alberta’s approach to rural infrastructure investment. Aligning provincial funding with rural cost drivers is essential to protecting Alberta’s economic competitiveness and ensuring the infrastructure that underpins the province’s prosperity remains reliable, and Budget 2026 offers a critical opportunity to modernize Alberta’s approach to rural infrastructure investment.

These recommendations focus on aligning provincial funding with rural cost drivers, strengthening key programs, and establishing long‑term, evidence‑based strategies that protect the infrastructure supporting 28% of provincial GDP. Readers can explore the full set of recommendations in this week’s release.
