Sound financial decisions shape service levels, infrastructure investment and long-term community sustainability. EOEP’s Budgeting & Finance course supports elected officials in strengthening their understanding of municipal finances and making informed, transparent decisions aligned with community priorities.
Participants will explore:
- How municipal finances are structured, legislated and influenced by council priorities
- Assessment, taxation and how revenue decisions impact the community
- Strategic financial planning, including the link between plans, budgets and trade-offs
- The role of operating and capital budgets, reserves and debt in long-term planning
- How council monitors financial performance and supports transparency and trust

This interactive online course is well suited for both new and returning elected officials who want to strengthen their confidence and effectiveness in financial decision-making and counts towards credit for the Municipal Elected Leaders Certificate.
