Provide Comments on the Proposed Listing of 21 Terrestrial Species under the SARA

Environment and Climate Change Canada is inviting you to comment on the proposed amendment to Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act (SARA): the List of Wildlife Species at Risk_21 Terrestrial Species.

In October, 2017, the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada (COSEWIC) submitted 56 assessments of species at risk to the federal Minister of the Environment. On January 22, 2018, the Government of Canada posted the Ministerial Response Statements for these species on the SARA Public Registry.

The Government of Canada is now launching public consultations on the potential amendment of Schedule 1, the List of Wildlife Species at Risk under SARA. The complete set of statements and the consultation path (normal or extended) for each species are available here.

Of the 21 terrestrial species that are eligible to be added to, or to have their current status changed on Schedule 1, 10 are known to occur in the Prairie Provinces (see below).
