Police Funding Model Review Engagement Opportunity

The Government of Alberta has added an additional engagement opportunity for elected officials.

The Government of Alberta (GOA) is conducting a review of the Police Funding Model (PFM) from May to July. An independent contractor (MNP) is leading the review process.

A virtual engagement session for elected officials has been scheduled on July 16 from 6:30 to 8:30pm. This session will include remarks by an elected representative from the Government of Alberta and a breakout session with time dedicated to receiving feedback on the current police funding model from all attendees, identifying concerns with the model, and suggesting improvements or changes for the future.

Engagement organizers are inviting one elected official or representative from each municipality. To confirm your attendance or designate a representative from your municipality, you must RSVP to MNP at AlbertaPoliceFundingModelReview@mnp.ca.

RMA Member Supports

RMA has created a member guide to facilitate member participation in the engagement process, and is strongly encouraging members to engage by sending letters to their MLA’s, the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services, and to AlbertaPoliceFundingModelReview@mnp.ca.

RMA has also released other PFM-related resources in recent months that will support member involvement in the engagement process including the following:

  • PFM Member Resource – A detailed overview of the current PFM formula as well as priority areas for change.
  • PFM Member Survey: What we Heard – A summary of RMA’s member survey responses in relation to impacts of the PFM on community safety and municipal finances.
